Two arrested in connection with drug operation at Haysi Regional Jail
It may have taken several months but after a lengthy investigation, the 29th Circuit Narcotics Task Force, in collaboration with the Dickenson County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police, arrested two suspects in connection with a large-scale drug operation at the Haysi Regional Jail in Haysi, Virginia.
The names of the individuals arrested and charged were not given. The individuals were charged with delivery of drugs to an inmate—a Class 5 felony-and distribution of a Schedule III controlled substance.
From a report issued by Sheriff Jeremy Fleming, Task Force officers determined that the two suspects, along with other inmates, had been distributing narcotics within the jail facility for several months. It is believed that the suspects profited an estimated $30,000 from the operation.
There are additional charges pending for both inmates and civilian participants and the case remains an active investigation.
"Drugs and contraband have absolutely no place in our facilities," said Sheriff Jeremy Fleming. “This was a significant drug and contraband seizure, and their work should be commended by all who value public safety in our Commonwealth."
Fleming added that on April 10, 2025, one of the accused pleaded guilty in Dickenson County Circuit Court and was sentenced to five years in a Virginia state prison.
Fleming thanked 29th Circuit Narcotics Task Force for their “dedication to this case and many others.” He also gave thanks to the members of the Haysi Regional Jail staff who contributed to this investigation.
In closing. Fleming emphasized that the Dickenson County Sheriff's Office would have no further comment at this time.
