(CLINTWOOD, Va. ) - A structure fire at the Colley Shopping Center on Thursday evening brought out fire crews from across Dickenson County and Wise County, highlighting challenges with water pressure in the Town of Clintwood.
The fire, which reportedly started at the West End Pharmacy within the shopping center, prompted a county-wide dispatch of all available departments and resources.
According to the Clintwood Fire Department, firefighters encountered insufficient water pressure after establishing their water supply, hindering efforts to combat the blaze. The department stated that the Town of Clintwood was contacted immediately, but the water pressure could not be increased due to the location of the water tank.
With assistance from nearby crews, including the Pound Fire Department and Sandy Ridge Fire Department, the fire was eventually declared trapped, and overhaul operations were completed.
Dickenson County Sheriff Jeremy Fleming confirmed that all occupants of the building exited safely. Two firefighters were evaluated by on-scene EMS.
“We would like to thank all mutual aid departments, dispatch, and other agencies involved,“ according to media release issued by the Clintwood Fire Department. "We remain committed to providing fast, aggressive fire suppression while putting the safety of our citizens and our community first."
